The London Borough of Waltham Forest is recruiting a Level 4 Government Counter Fraud Apprentice to join its award-winning fraud team.

Salary: APPREN4 £27,780.19 | Full-time, fixed-term contract for 28 months | 36 hours per week

About the role

You will gain practical experience supporting investigations into fraud affecting the Council, including housing fraud and internal staff fraud. With guidance from experienced investigation officers and managers, you will help prevent, detect and investigate fraud and irregularities while working towards the Level 4 Government Counter Fraud Apprenticeship.

The Council will fully fund and support your professional training. The role offers a hybrid working model, with a minimum of two days per week in the office, subject to business requirements.

What you will do

You will assist with fraud investigations, interviews, training sessions and proactive anti-fraud projects. You will also assess referrals, analyse information, respond to reactive and proactive enquiries, and help ensure cases are recorded and progressed within agreed timescales.

What we are looking for

Applicants should have the right to work in the UK, GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or Level 2 Functional Skills), an interest in counter fraud, investigations, compliance, law, intelligence or public service, strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information. A Levels, a degree and a driving licence are desirable.

You must be committed to completing the 28-month apprenticeship and be able to obtain the required employment checks, including enhanced DBS clearance.
